"Obtaining
WBE certification is an important business development
strategy for business owners in general and particularly
for women business owners," said Harris-Lange. "With
women-owned firms accounting for 41% of all privately
held firms, having WBE certification is the only way
purchasing agents have confidence that a business
representing itself as woman-owned is in fact
woman-owned."
The
Economic Blueprint Women
Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) presented the Economic
Blueprint in special events at both the Democrat and
Republican Conventions, and to Congress during its We
Decide! Conference on September 8 and 9 in Washington
D.C. Underwritten by women-owned small businesses
and 30 small business associations, the Blueprint
outlines the immense progress women business owners have
made since the passage of HR 5050 in 1988 and their
plans for future growth. NWBOC is one of 14 supporting
organizations.
NWBOC is an affiliate of WIPP, the
nation's largest bi-partisan women's business group,
representing more than 500,000 women in business in
federal policy issues.
During the conference in
D.C., WIPP members (including NWBOC-certifieds, such as
Nancy Zurbuchen of Kansas City and Mary Schnack of
Arizona), presented the Economic Blueprint to Democratic
and Republican leaders during the Senate Small Business
and Entrepreneurship Committee's Women's Business Round
Table held on Capitol Hill. They also met with their
U.S. Senators and representatives from their respective
states.
The key issues outlined in The Blueprint
include health care, procurement, taxes, access to
capital, energy, and telecommunications. The Blueprint,
comprised of research derived over the last year from
WIPP members and members of its Coalition Partners which
number more than 500,000, provides a clear policy
roadmap for Congress and the New Administration of the
economic development needs and objectives in the coming
years for women-owned businesses.
"Women
voters and entrepreneurs from both parties will play an
integral role in the 2008 elections, making it
increasingly necessary for this group to be informed on
the issues that affect their lives and businesses.
The WIPP conference empowers women business owners with
new public policy tools and increased knowledge to help
grow their businesses and make informed decisions on
Election Day," said Barbara Kasoff, President of WIPP
and a board member of NWBOC.
